Cirrhosis
Cirrhosis is a chronic liver disease characterized by the formation of scar tissue (fibrosis) in the organ. This scar tissue replaces normal and functional liver tissue, affecting the liver’s ability to perform its essential functions.
The main causes of cirrhosis include:
- Excessive alcohol consumption.
- Chronic infection by hepatitis B, C, and D viruses.
- Accumulation of fat in the liver, unrelated to alcohol consumption.
- Disorders where the immune system attacks liver cells.
- Genetic disorders such as hemochromatosis and Wilson’s disease that can lead to the accumulation of metals in the liver.
- Autoimmune diseases affecting the bile ducts.
Benefits of PBM
• Reduces inflammation, which is beneficial in cirrhosis, as inflammation is a key feature of this condition.
• Stimulates the proliferation of liver cells and tissue regeneration.
• Improvesliverfunction.
• Generates antioxidant properties, helping to reduce oxidative stress in the liver.
• Has an effect on reducing hepatic fibrosis by modulating collagen formation.
